| It is located in the state-grade Double Dragon Scenic Spots
Area 8 km south of Jinhua City, and on the upper part of Northern
Mountain (also named Jinhua Mountain). The Park was built with
the approval of Forestry Ministry on 22 November 1991 and became
a state-grade forestry park with the approval of Forestry Ministry
in a document No.18 (97) on 23 March 1997.
Double Dragon Cave Forest Park covers an area of 11650 mu
(translated to 7.77 sq.km.) of which 160 mu is covered by
water. The park is encircled by basins. On the north is Duntou
basin that separates the Jinhua Mountain and the Dragon Mountain.
On the south there is Jinheng Basin. To the north there are
two peaks: Dapanshan peak, 1,312 meters in height and Jiudingshan
peak 1,245 meters in height.
Two sloping flat fields lie on the top. On the southern mountainside
there are the well-known Double Dragon Cave, the Icy Kettle
Cave, Chaozheng Cave, and Taoyuan Cave. On the west side,
there is the Underground River (Six-Cave Mountain). One part
of the Northern Mountain stretches northeast to Yiwu where
the mountain turns into a red earth knap in Yiwu City and
Pujiang County. The other part of the Northern Mountain runs
westward and meets its end point at the Hills Park on the
bank of Lanjiang River. Most of the earth in the park is either
red or yellow. The red earth is mainly distributed in places
at low sea level; the yellow earth at higher sea level. The
deep and fertile earth is very helpful to the growth of trees.
The rocks in the park are mainly tuff and rhyolite and partly
limestone. The park lies in this semi tropical area with a
monsoon climate. It is semi-moist in summer and autumn with
abundant rainfall in spring. Due to the ample rainfall and
cool weather in the summer, this area serves as a good summer
resort.
The park is characterized by ¡°green, beauty, serene and cool¡±.
Lakes in this mountainous area are distinctive features of
this park. Lutianhu Lake (at 600 meters above sea level) and
Xihu Lake (at 1000 meters above sea level) look like two pearls.
Charming and enchanting, clear and calm, the lakes resemble
mirrors. At sunset, the lakes glisten with undulating wavelets
in the declining sunrays. The dusky scenery merges the surrounding
hills, the water and the rock formations into a visual marvel.
Rocks of strange or grotesque shapes and sizes give the park
another distinctive feature. Some of them change their appearances
with only steps away, and some other pose alarming perilous
appearance. People enjoy the significant contrast greatly.
Take a rock named the White Rock for example. At nearly one
hundred meters in height, the perilous rock looks like the
Great Wall. Another rock is named Biwushi (A rock that resembles
two soldiers competing against each other in military skills).
It is said that in order to boost morale of his army, Zhu
Yuanzhang (who later became the fist emperor of the Ming Dynasty)
ordered General Chang Yuchun to give an open challenge. Hu
Dahai, another general, came to challenge Chang. They competed
by each lifting and carrying a heavy rock. As their strength
matched, the two rocks they had moved were put together and
formed in the shape of ÈË. Another stony wonder is a rock named
Zhuangshishengxian. There are the prints of a head, palms
and feet on the rock. It is said the prints were left when
Huang Chuping bumped against the rock in order to become a
celestial being. There are also other vivid legends relating
to other rocks such as the rock where the commander named
his generals, the rock where a knife was tested for its sharpness,
the rock where some sacred books were found.
The karst topography is clearly represented in the five caves
and ten scenic spots including the Double Dragon Cave, the
Icy Kettle Cave, The Chaozheng Cave, The Celestial Waterfall
Cave and Taoyuandong Cave.
The park is located at the upper part of The Northern Mountain
where clouds and mists linger on all year round and the ever-charging
weather change brings about spectacular scenes. The top of
the mountain is the good place to watch the fantastic sunrise
and scudding clouds.
Inside the park the forestry coverage rate is 84%, where
old trees are tall to reach into the skies. Owing to the unique
natural environment, advantageous geographical location, convenient
transportation and pleasantly cool weather, as well as the
fascinating view, the park attracts tourists and enjoys the
reputation of ¡°little Lushan Mountain¡±.
